Dr. John Akhnoukh is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai West, followed by fellowship training in Pain Management at the Weill Cornell Tri-Institutional Pain Fellowship Program, which includes rotations at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Akhnoukh has pioneered a novel cervical ultrasound technique, enhancing the precision and safety of spinal interventions performed in the neck. His expertise in endoscopic discectomy allows for minimally invasive, highly effective treatments, providing patients with significant pain relief and quicker recovery times.

Dr. Akhnoukh specializes in interventional acute, chronic, and cancer pain management, with expertise in minimally invasive therapies, spine and joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, cryotherapy, PRP/stem-cell therapy, and spinal cord stimulation. He emphasizes a comprehensive, multimodal approach to treatment, addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of pain to improve his patients’ function and quality of life.

Samir Patel, D.O.

Dr. Patel

Dr. Patel is originally from Nairobi, Kenya. He moved to Texas for college and attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then attended the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he learned to embrace a holistic approach to medicine early in his career. In 2008, he arrived in San Antonio to train in anesthesiology at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. He also completed a pain fellowship at UT Health San Antonio (2013).

In addition to providing balanced and compassionate care to his patients, Dr. Patel also believes in the power of learning and educating. He is involved in multiple anesthesia and pain societies which keeps him updated with the latest advances and research in pain management and anesthesiology. He has been involved in various publications and has presented at national and international society meetings. When not at work, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with family and dogs, hiking and watching sports.

Sandip Savaliya, MD

Dr. Sandip Savaliya is a highly skilled, board-certified neurosurgeon with specialized expertise in complex and minimally invasive spinal surgeries. He completed his medical degree at Penn State University College of Medicine, followed by residency and fellowship training at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. 

During his fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, Dr. Savaliya gained advanced knowledge of cutting-edge surgical techniques, including robotic spinal surgery. As part of his residency, he also spent a year in Australia, where he further refined his skills and broadened his experience.

Dr. Savaliya has made significant contributions to spinal research, focusing on various spinal pathologies and treatment advancements. He is deeply committed to delivering compassionate care and strongly believes in the power of a collaborative, team-based approach to patient care.

Sean Welch, MD

Dr. Welch is Dual-Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. His clinical practice focuses on musculoskeletal and nerve-related injuries. He provides medication management, injections and minimally invasive surgeries. 

Dr. Welch was raised in Portland, Maine and moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2019 to start his residency. After falling in love with Texas, he and his wife settled on San Antonio as their home. In his free time he loves to spend time with his wife, son, and three huskies. He also enjoys CrossFit and snowboarding and skiing.

Her dedication has earned multiple honors, including a national award for Inclusive Care from the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and the Faculty of the Year awards at UT Health San Antonio.
